Understand the system
EPS SIPs combine an expanded-polystyrene insulating core with structural wood facings. Factory manufacturing brings framing, sheathing, and insulation together in a panel. The specified assembly and its connections determine how the package works as a system.
Panels, openings, connections, and handling requirements are coordinated during design. Wall and roof arrangements vary by project. Your written package quote and project engineering define what is supplied.
SIP education
Coordinate panel layouts, openings, connections, and the structural design before manufacturing. SIPA design guidance notes that performance depends on more than a stated R-value and includes coordination topics such as HVAC systems and shop drawings.
A tight building envelope needs planned mechanical ventilation. Your HVAC professional should size equipment using the actual home design, climate, and envelope performance.
Plan access, unloading equipment, dry storage, foundation accuracy, and the assembly sequence with your builder. Follow the specified connections and sealing details.
Coordinate services during design. Electrical chases and trade routes need planning; avoid unapproved cuts to structural panels.
Structural panels work as a system. Support conditions, splines, fasteners, sealants, and roof support details must follow the engineered package and manufacturer instructions.
