Building your Dream Log Home Within Budget: A log home is an investment of time, energy, and money. If you’ve decided to build a log home or log cabin, you’ve probably spent months or even years researching how to make the most of your investment. But many of us don’t have unlimited funds, and you may be wondering if you can work within your budget while still getting a high-quality log home or log cabin. Yes, you can! There are many ways we can help you keep costs in check and still get the log home of your dreams.

Here’s Where to Save

Choose a log home package. When you choose a log cabin package, you’ll save money in construction time and materials. But don’t worry that “package” means “inferior.” Our log home packages use only the best Northern White Cedar logs and come with a 25 year warranty, and include many items as standard that aren’t even offered as options with other log home builders or log home manufactures. Check out some of the floor plans we offer. You’re sure to find something that fits your style and budget. We even offer free custom log home design at not charge, if you can’t find the perfect log home plan for you.

Build in stages. We can build your main log house first, then add a garage, and wraparound porch, or an outbuilding in a few years when you’ve saved more money.

Think a little smaller. You don’t have to build a tiny house (although if you want one, we’re great at those, too!), but even by reducing the square footage just a bit, you can build a budget-friendly home.

Skip a second story, and add dormers to your attic or roof instead. You’ll still have space, but without the cost of an entire floor.

Use finishing materials, stone, rock, or cedar shake, can be a little hard on the wallet compared to logs, or sheetrock, they look great on a log home but remember they can increase the cost.

Install mid-grade fixtures in your kitchens and bathrooms. You can easily upgrade these later.

Stick with a simple roof line. Planes and valleys cost more — a straight roof line will save you money.

Avoid change orders. Be sure you’re set with what you want before the log home building begins. We offer a complete, hands-on custom approach to help you plan the entire process of building your dream log home. We’ll make sure that everything is streamlined and simple, so you’ll know what to expect at every step!

Don’t Scrimp On These!

When you invest in these items, you’ll actually save more money in the long run.

Energy-efficient windows and doors. Our Katahdin homes are naturally energy efficient, and when you combine that with efficient Anderson Windows and Therma-Tru Doors, you’ll save even more!

A high-quality HVAC system. The last thing you want is your HVAC going out on you in the middle of winter or summer. Plus, you’ll save money in electrical bills when you choose an energy-efficient system.
