Imagine spending the day on the lake with your family boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing, then, instead of packing everything up and driving home, you pull your boat up to dock right in your own backyard.

You can feel like you’re on vacation every day when you build your log home on Lake Hartwell. Lake Hartwell is a reservoir created by the Hartwell Dam that borders Georgia and South Carolina. Convenient to I-85, Lake Hartwell offers small-town southern charm just minutes away from larger cities like Atlanta, GA and Greenville, SC. It’s also just a hop, skip and a jump from towns like Anderson, SC and Lavonia, GA. Its 56,000 acres of water and 962 miles of shoreline offer plenty of lifestyle amenities you won’t find just anywhere, making it a highly desirable location.

Water Sports

Lake Hartwell is hard to beat when it comes to water activities. Dock your watercraft at one of the five marinas, or jump right off your own dock to take a swim! Warm southern weather means you can enjoy boating, tubing and wake boarding longer throughout the year. Lake Hartwell is truly a water lover’s dream.

Explore the Great Outdoors

The lake offers plenty of places to spend time in nature. Take a hike along one of its many nature trails. Visit Lake Hartwell State Park, which offers camping, a visitor’s center, and picnic shelters. Birding enthusiasts will love discovering the more than 250 species of birds that live around the lake.

Visit the Attractions

Check out the Issaqueena Dam in the Clemson Experimental Forest, Eighteen Mile Creek, or for a thrill, visit Ghost Island, where you’ll see graves dating all the way back to 1700s and the War of 1812. Or explore the building ruins left from the old town of Andersonville on Andersonville Island, the largest island on the lake.

Fishing At Its Finest

Lake Hartwell fishing is world renowned. Over 40 types of fish live in the lake, including largemouth bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. The Bassmaster Classic has been held there three times in the past decade, as well as the Bassmaster Elite competition in 2019.

Fore!

Golfing in Lake Hartwell is some of the finest you’ll find in the area. Enjoy the amenities at the Currahee Club, a Jim Fazio-designed course in Toccoa GA that boasts a high-end clubhouse and panoramic views of the lake. You can also tee off at Chickasaw Point, a gated community in Westminster SC, or try out Stone Creek Cove, a 9 hole semi-private course in Anderson SC.

Game Day

If your blood doesn’t already bleed orange, it soon will! Clemson University and the Death Valley Stadium tower over Lake Hartwell, and in the fall, hundreds of fans boat up the Seneca River to tailgate and then join thousands of others to watch the Tigers play.

At Big Twig Homes, our process is centered on you. No matter how you choose to enjoy living at Lake Hartwell, we’ll work with you to craft the log cabin of your dreams. Give us a call today to get started!
